BP oil spill and social networking
The recent BP oil spill isn’t a new issue we’ve never seen before, though news reporters would have you thinking otherwise. Do you remember the Citgo oil spill in 2006, Guimaras in the Philippines in 2006, Gulf War in 1991, or the Grand Eagle spill in 1985? The list goes on and on, but this oil spill has sparked something new, the usage of online social media outlets to communicate and collaborate. News providers are actively asking their viewers to submit their ideas and comments via youtube, facebook, and tweets. And users, better yet entire communities are submitting videos of incidents, comments, and their ideas on how to fix the issue. Social networking more and more is being utilized for social awareness.
