"Mary is confined to a black-and-white room and educated through black-and-white books and lectures on a black-and-white television. In this way, she learns everything there is to know about the physical world. If physicalism—the doctrine that everything is physical—is true, then Mary seems to know all there is to know. What happens, then, when she emerges from her black-and-white room and sees the color red for the first time?"

It got me thinking. There is "Baptism of Desire". Where one desires to be baptized and intends to be so, but has not gone through the process and ceremony of baptism. For our children, unborn and in their infancy, we make their decisions for them as their advocates until they reach the age of reason. If one intends to have their children baptized and thus erasing their original sin, the parents, as advocate do qualify their children for "Baptism of Desire". So who is to say that they don't make it to Heaven?]]> How does emotion affect reason? http://www.sophistsociety.com/forums/index.php?p=/discussion/52/how-does-emotion-affect-reason Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:15:06 -0700 Myownend 52@/forums/index.php?p=/discussions Second amendment, NICS, the brady bill and its constitutionality http://www.sophistsociety.com/forums/index.php?p=/discussion/58/second-amendment-nics-the-brady-bill-and-its-constitutionality- Thu, 29 Jul 2010 21:02:56 -0700 admin 58@/forums/index.php?p=/discussions
The second amendment reads
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

And the brady handgun violence prevention act sets limitations on the transfer of guns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Handgun_Violence_Prevention_Act

"These prohibitions apply to any person who:

1. Has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;
2. Is a fugitive from justice;
3. Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance;
4. Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution;
5. Is an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States;
6. Has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
7. Having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced U.S. citizenship;
8. Is subject to a court order that restrains the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such intimate partner, or;
9. Has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence."

does the second amendment only apply to those we see fit? are we only allowed to own firearms the government agrees with? ]]>
